Yoho – Banff – Jasper Trip

So many places to offroad, and hike! 🌲 All international borders are still closed because of COVID19 so focusing on exploration of areas around Canada. Definitely Rockies are my favourite ones! Visited three beautiful National Parks during that trip, and for sure looking forward to go back there soon.

Banff National Park is Canada’s oldest national park, established in 1885. Located in Alberta’s Rocky Mountains, 110–180 kilometres west of Calgary, Banff encompasses 6,641 square kilometres of mountainous terrain, with many glaciers and ice fields, dense coniferous forest, and alpine landscapes. ~wiki

Jasper National Park is extending over 11,000 square kilometres, it’s the largest national park in the Canadian Rockies and part of UNESCO’s Canadian Rocky Mountain Parks World Heritage Site. ~pc.gc.ca

Yoho National Park is a national park of Canada in British Columbia. It is located within the Rocky Mountains along the western slope of the Continental Divide of the Americas in southeastern British Columbia. ~wiki

Carpenter Lake Offroad

What a weekend! What a trip! The whole gang going off-roading. Nothing better than the weekend in the wilderness. 🌲  Carpenter Lake is the largest of the three reservoirs of the Bridge River Power Project, which is located in the mountains west of Lillooet, British Columbia. The lake is about 185 kilometres north of the province’s major city of Vancouver and is formed by the 1951 diversion of the Bridge River by Terzaghi Dam into Seton Lake via a tunnel through Mission Mountain, which separates the Seton and Bridge drainages. Several ranches and homesteads in the broad serpentine of the upper Bridge River basin were flooded out by the hydro project, which changed the character of the upper valley forever. ~wiki

“Carpenter Lake is about 50 kilometres in length, although its upper reaches beyond the flooded gold mining town of Minto City are usually mudflat due to fluctuations in the level of the reservoir. Its total area approaches 50 square kilometres.”

Bowen Island

Couple weeks ago I’ve decided to spent some time locally around Vancouver. I’ve chosen island 30min/1h ride from my home. So beautiful place! … Bowen Island is an island municipality that is part of Metro Vancouver, BC, Canada. In addition, Island is included within the jurisdiction of the Islands Trust. Located in Howe Sound, is approximately 6 km wide by 12 km long, with the island at its closest point about 3 km west of the mainland. ~wiki

Red Dead Redemption 2 By Rockstar Games

Rockstar Games did it again! A beautiful game in an immersive world. The range of challenges, side missions and other special things to do + brilliant story and memorable characters are making this game amazing. For sure, I need to mention dense open world and beautiful graphics amazingly achieved on just, old hardware of PS4. The game itself starts slow but this only leads to an epic journey. Assuming, Red Dead Redemption 2 is a milestone not only for this gen but for video games in general. [Photos taken by Agata]

“Red Dead Redemption 2 is a Western action-adventure game developed and published by Rockstar Games. It was released on October 26, 2018, for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles. The third entry in the Red Dead series, it is a prequel to the 2010 game Red Dead Redemption. Set in 1899 in a fictionalized version of the Western United States, the story centers on outlaw Arthur Morgan, a member of the Van der Linde gang dealing with the decline of the Wild West whilst attempting to survive against government forces, rival gangs, and other enemies. The story also follows fellow gang member John Marston, protagonist from the first Red Dead Redemption.” ~ Wiki

“Tired of all the broken promises, micro-transactions and child infested battle royale-inspired titles? Red Dead Redemption 2 is definitely for you.”

God Of War By Santa Monica Studio

I’m a big fan of what Sony does for us, making single player experiences count. In the current Battle-Royale gaming world where you can find mostly multiplayer titles, it is important for players like me to experience games where story and adventures of the main protagonist are more important than points and frags … Although, I have never played another God of War game, and I honestly had no interest in playing this part of sequel whatsoever. I have been quite sure that it is going to be hard to start playing another part of the sequel without any knowledge about their past. The only reason I picked this up is word-of-mouth, my better half – Agata who really wanted to experience this story [her photoshoots from the game you can see below] and gameplay presented on teasers showing game similar to some Naughty Dog’s productions and my favorite, top #1 Horizon Zero Dawn by Guerrilla Games.

“God of War is an action-adventure video game developed by Santa Monica Studio and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. Released on April 20, 2018, for the PlayStation 4 (PS4) console, it is the eighth installment in the God of War series, the eighth chronologically, and the sequel to 2010’s God of War III. Unlike previous games, which were loosely based on Greek mythology, this game is loosely based on Norse mythology. The main protagonists are Kratos, the former Greek God of War, and his young son Atreus. Following the death of Kratos’ second wife and Atreus’ mother, they journey to fulfill her promise and spread her ashes at the highest peak of the nine realms. Kratos keeps his troubled past a secret from Atreus, who is unaware of his divine nature. Along their journey, they encounter monsters and gods of the Norse world.” ~ Wiki

I spent approximately 50h in game / new game +. God of War is really worth every second spent on missions, quests, and exploration. Looking forward to seeing more adventures of Kratos in near future. E3 2019? 😉

The game has everything a perfect game needs. It has an incredible story based on Norse mythology, good graphics, and post-processed effects, great music, and most importantly of all great gameplay. God of War is yet another stupendous inclusion to the PS4’s already strong library of Sony-published exclusives. Blending incredibly satisfying game feel with a very strong and even heartwarming narrative about parenting and what it means to be there for those you care for, this is one of those rare games that somehow manages to juggle both gameplay and story with ease. The game truly deserves all the hype it has been getting.  I am glad Sony showed everyone again that people still love great story-driven single player games, not microtransaction and lootbox-filled online trash. Good job!

“The visuals, story representation, and ambiance are stunning. The redemption of Kratos are well represented and combat is intuitive and refreshing. Probably the best game for PS4.”

Unravel Two by Coldwood Interactive

Unravel Two is a little bit different to its predecessor. It takes the established puzzle-platformer into a new direction for the sequel. There is enough personality, life, and challenge in this game to deem it a far better improvement over the original. I like this one far more than the first, it has a great charm with levels that are really fun. Coldwood Interactive added co-op play which is what really drew me in and it is so enjoyable especially when I am playing with my wife. Delightful playground for fans of puzzle platformers. It is a pleasure to play. More of titles like that one, please!

“Unlike the first game, Unravel Two is both a single-player and a multiplayer game, though local co-op only. The game centres on two Yarnys, which can be controlled with either one player or two, which must work together in order to solve puzzles and manipulate the world. The game contains a main storyline, set on an island, as well as challenge levels, significantly more difficult levels.” ~ Wiki

“Unravel Two is a puzzle platform video game developed by Swedish studio Coldwood Interactive and published by Electronic Arts under the EA Originals label. It was released on 9 June 2018.”

Horizon Zero Dawn By Guerrilla Games

This year I have got one of the best games I have ever played. Horizon Zero Dawn by Guerrilla Games has moved me to a different, virtual world and allowed to be a part of adventure with Aloy – ginger hair girl who is a main hero in this production…

“Horizon Zero Dawn is an action role-playing video game developed by Guerrilla Games and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment for PlayStation 4 and released in early 2017.”

“The story is set in the 31st century, in a world where humans have regressed to primitive tribal societies as a result of some unknown calamity. Their technologically advanced predecessors are vaguely remembered as the “Old Ones.” Large robotic creatures known merely as “machines” now dominate the Earth. For the most part, they peacefully coexist with humans, who occasionally hunt them for parts. However, a phenomenon known as the “Derangement” has caused machines to become more aggressive towards humans, and larger and deadlier machines have begun to appear. There are three tribes that are prominently featured: the Nora, the Carja, and the Oseram. The Nora are fierce hunter-gatherers who live in the mountains and worship nature as the “All-Mother.” The Carja are desert-dwelling city builders who worship the Sun. The Oseram are tinkerers known for their metalworking, brewing, and arguing” ~ Wiki

I spent an approximately 100h to finish game + 20h in new game plus (just main missions) + 35h in the newest DLC – The Frozen Wilds. I can truly say that main story is amazing, addictive and Aloy is just lovely. It is sad that we – gamers can not meet her in “real life”.

I did not believe that Guerrilla will be able to achieve graphic effects and details which I saw in teasers. Yup, It is just a console, cheap hardware which can not be comparable with the newest, powerful PCs. But they did it! Whole world and all 3D models are hi-fi. Graphic is really stunning! I have no idea how it was possible on console where for example Ghost Wildlands has graphic like low-graphic-mode on PC and sniper weapons are hard a little bit to use because of environment glitch/feature which is generating radius max 100-200m of details around us.

Guerrilla says that The Frozen Wilds was the last DLC but … Hopefully not. Horizon Zero Dawn is my favourite game and really I would like to go back and spend some more time with Aloy fighting for better future, mysteries and truth.
